Banquet- Tasting Colour
Be our guest as Telus Spark proudly presents Banquet! An immersive exhibit with various hands on areas allows guests to experience science where they may not expect it: gastronomy! This exhibit focuses on how we experience food and feasting through all five senses: taste, smell, touch, sight, and hearing with interactive displays highlighting each. Expect to learn new and surprising things about how our brains and bodies experience and enjoy all aspects of food from preparation to eating, and how the science blends with culture, arts, and society.
This opportunity is part of the amuse-bouche section of Banquet and features exhibits that explore smell, hearing, and taste. The specific experience blends both taste and cognition. In the experiment, guests are given a random gummy bear (blue, pink, or yellow) and must determine its flavour. It may not be what they expect! The correlation between flavour and colour is informed by what visual experiences our brains have already had; this is known as cross-modal perception.
Volunteering here, you will guide guests through the gummy bear experience and provide the following services:
- Encourage guests in the Banquet to try the experience and assist them throughout, and engage with them on the phenomenon of how colour impacts flavour.
- Crowd management when times are busy, ensuring that everybody wants to do the experience can.
- Restocking gummy bears when supplies run low.
Please come join us for this opportunity and build your science communication skills as we help guests learn about gastronomy!
- Training will be provided
- *Please wear closed-toed shoes*
- There are scents in Banquet that can be overwhelming.
