Prototype Project Support Volunteer
The Prototype Project at Spark is a semester-long program that includes a combination of classroom visits and in-person visits to TELUS Spark Science Centre, with a final showcase where students can share what they created with friends and family!
Guided by Spark Science Educators and mentors from the science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) fields, students build their own science centre experience prototypes, inspired by the interactive experiences seen at TELUS Spark. Plus, they learn about the design-thinking process, receive mentoring and feedback from the Spark team, and explore a STEAM subject of their choosing.
As a volunteer, you will mentor groups of 3-4 children in grades 4, 5, 6, or 9 as they develop their Prototype Projects. Depending on the day, you may work with different grades at various stages of the project timeline.
Expectations of this role:
- Provide constructive criticism to the students without being too harsh
- Offer solutions to any technical problems groups may be facing
- Collaborate with teachers if needed to clarify concepts
This volunteering opportunity takes place off-site at different school locations and at different start times. Please read carefully below.

May 12th will be the showcase for the students projects! The Celebration of Learning!
Volunteering for this evening will help with some event set up, wayfinding for the students, and general support for the staff.
